ICT use can improve patient safety by enabling continuity of care, reducing duplicative examinations and prescribing errors and by avoiding miscommunication, which is at the centre of 80% of medical errors.
These findings of the eHealth for Safety study were presented by Empirica senior researcher Veli Stroetmann in an article in the journal European hospital (2007, Vol. 16, Issue 2, p. 22) which can be downloaded here:

ICT is an enabler for a safer healthcare environment. The key technologies and examples of implemented eHealth solutions were presented by the eHealth for Safety study team at empirica in an article in the IHE (International Hospital Equipment & Solutions, V. 32, No. 8 (Dec. 2006), pp. 12-13).
